Work that I have done

Aesthetics and creativity module, where I learnt how to encourage children's creativity with the help of arts and crafts.

Paper collage

Recycled paper

This is a paper collage piece that was created using different pages of a magazine. children can use large pieces of paper to create simple illustrations based off their imagination and this activity can help in developing and strengthening their fine motor skills. This is an example of learning the basics of Aesthetics and Creativity in Ngee Ann Poly which I think is a great skill to learn about when it comes to being a preschool teacher in the future.

Community helper's toolbox.

Sorting activity sheet.

I presented the students with a hands-on educational tool to help them better understand the many types of community helper jobs. As part of my lesson plan, I wanted my students to have an interactive opportunity in which they could identify, sort, and remember the specific tools used by different community helpers. So, I instructed the students to take all the tool cutouts off the educational tool so that they could then be mixed together. The students worked as a group to determine which tools matched each of the community helpers, and they then placed each tool into the appropriate box. I found that the students were very interested in the educational tool and took great delight in participating in this activity. The students gained practice in sorting and strengthening their memory of the names and uses for the tools used by each of the community helpers.

Mr Postman

Matching activity resources.

Some of the students in the numeracy lesson required extra support to stay focused and engaged with the lesson. The purpose of the activity I created was to develop and provide the children with an opportunity to practice counting and recognizing numbers in a fun and engaging manner. I seized the children’s attention using a Mr. Postman puppet so they would remain attentive throughout the duration of the lesson. Each child closed their eyes, and then randomly selected an envelope that contained a number on it. From there, they would get out the appropriate number of counters based upon the number in the envelope and then put the counters into an envelope. Afterward, they were to deliver the envelope to the house that had a same-numbered label. Because I used a puppet, I was able to successfully increase the children's level of engagement and participation in the lesson. By doing a hands-on activity, the students practised counting and matching numbers, and the majority completed the task confidently and with enjoyment.

Lesson plans written during internship

Written based on the 8 MIs

I have chosen these 2 lesson plans to showcase. I feel like these lesson plans were the most effective and catered to the children's needs, interests and developmental appropriateness. The lesson plans were evaluated by my mentor and were changed to suit the children's needs more, helping them enjoy and learn effectively during the lessons.
